SECOND FEMALE JOURNALIST KILLED IN SOMALIA




Mogadishu: - The Somali Media Freedom Defender (SMFD)) denounces strongly the killing of a Somali female journalist in Mogadishu before last night.

Three gunmen with pistols shot Rahmo Abdulkadir, a female journalist working for Radio station locating at Abudwaq district in Galgadud province of central Somalia.
Ms. Rahmo was shot at least 10- times in Towfiq village at Yaqshid district in north Mogadishu.
“Somali journalists must get protection from the government and it is required to take steps to stop the nonstop and meaningless killing of media workers,” said Somali Media Freedom Defender.
Rahmao was working as producer and technician for Radio Abudwaq.
 
Rahmo Abdulkadir is the third journalist killed in Somalia in 2013 and the second female journalist to be killed in Somalia during last two decades.

Duniyo Muhyadin Nur, a HornAfrik employee, the first female journalist, who had been killed in Afgoye district in-Somalia on June 2005.

Late Rahma Abdulkadir was working as freelance journalist since 2010. She has returned from the central region of Galgadud few weeks ago where she was working recently.
Last year, 2012 was recorded as one of the deadliest years for journalists in Somalia taking the lives of 18 journalists. This is the second female journalist to be killed.
Such incidents have become norm in Mogadishu as journalists have fallen victims.
